Rewetting the Klingenberg bog
As part of the “Energy Transition Osterholz 2030” project, the municipality of Schwanewede aims to cover 100% of its electricity consumption with renewable energies by 2030. The Klingenberg wind farm planned by Energiequelle GmbH and built 2015 contributes 13% towards this goal. Theoretically, 12,000 households are supplied with electricity by this wind farm.
The six turbines of the type E-101 of the Aurich-based manufacturer Enercon each have a rated power of 3 megawatts (MW), a hub height of 135 m and a rotor diameter of 101 m. The plants were connected to the EWE grid via the Schwanewede substation.
As compensation measures for the construction of the Klingenberg wind farm, the local drained bog covering an area of 12 hectares was restored to its natural state in 2016, in addition to the planting of a new row of trees 300 m long along the “Schafkoben” road; ; moreover, an indigenous forest covering 3,000 m² was afforested for this purpose. Last but not least, dams were constructed to impound the rainwater, allowing the moorland to be re-wetted in the long term.
Moors contribute to climate protection because they are carbon sinks and thus reduce CO2 emissions. Very special plants and animals can settle there. The revitalisation of the bog is professionally supervised through biological monitoring over a period of 12 years.
Households and small business owners in the area around the Klingenberg wind farm can even benefit directly from the wind turbines. The electricity provider “eq strom GmbH & Co. KG”, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Energiequelle GmbH, offers all residents in the vicinity of the wind farm an electricity tariff that is both reasonably priced and tailored to local needs. The effective radius includes the villages of Meyenburg, Eggestedt, Seedorf as well as parts of Brundorf, Hinnebeck and Schwanewede.
