IHK Potsdam presents EMAS certificate to Brandenburg-based firm.
Kallinchen, March 2019. Already since the 11th of November 2018, Energiequelle has been in the EMAS register. Now the EMAS certificate was handed over at an official ceremony last week. Robert Kausmann, energy adviser of the IHK Potsdam, met managing director Michael Raschemann in the new building of the company from Brandenburg, which plans projects within the field of renewable energies. Energiequelle is already inextricably linked to environmental protection and nature conservation, but has also decided to introduce an environmental management system at its main sites in Kallinchen and Bremen. With the introduction, Energiequelle is making a credible and transparent contribution to sustainable management and involving employees in the conscious use of energy and resources. “On the other hand, from the company’s point of view, this could impact positively on the approvals necessary under the Federal Emissions Control Act,” says Raschemann.
Why EMAS?
EMAS is the Community System developed by the European Community for voluntary environmental management and auditing (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) and the world’s most demanding system for sustainable environmental management. The requirements go beyond a simple management system, and also cover improvement exceeding the environmental law requirements. Energiequelle has undertaken to continuously improve its environmental performance and involve all its employees in this.
Careful use of resources
Not only does Energiequelle actively contribute to the achievement of the climate protection targets set by the Federal Government and to leaving the environment intact for posterity, but also undertakes to reduce the environmental impact of its activities to a minimum. With the introduction of an environmental management system pursuant to EMAS, the binding legislative and voluntary obligations the company has undertaken for the continuous improvement of its environmental performance have become measurable and optimized. Energiequelle also endeavours to select service providers and suppliers whose working methods and technologies are sustainable and resource-friendly.
The energy requirements in the office are covered with energy from photovoltaics, wind energy and CHP units. Since the beginning of the year, all invoices are sent by email. In addition, they only use paper that is made of 100% recycled paper and which bears the Blue Angel ecolabel. The firm has switched its tea and coffee supply to organic or fair trade products and has introduced company bicycle leasing for its employees. There are also charging points for electric cars in the car parks of the office buildings.
