Energiequelle GmbH has built seven Nordex N149 turbines in Finland
Helsinki, 4 October 2022. Energiequelle s second project in Finland has been substantially completed and put into commercial operation in recent weeks. The Konttisuo wind farm, which was built 20 kilometres southeast of the municipality of Soini on the border between South Ostrobothnia and Central Finland, comprises seven turbines from the manufacturer Nordex with a total output of 29.96 MW. Energiequelle will take over the technical and commercial management of operations in the future, and a 25-year maintenance contract has been concluded with Nordex.
N149/4.0–4.5 turbines are equipped with an anti-icing system in the Cold Climate Version. The energy-efficient heating of this system prevents ice from accumulating on the rotors and turbines. This function does not require any system shutdowm, which has a positive effect on yields. Around 37,000 households will be supplied with electricity every year.
The opening of the wind farm will be celebrated on Saturday,29th of October, together with the citizens of the municipality. The entire opening day, including the festivities in the wind farm and the evening event in the center of the municipality, is organized in cooperation with the local sports club Soinin Sisu.
Finland is interesting for renewable energy investments
Bagnall Energy Limited, managed by Downing LLP (Downing), has acquired the Konttisuo wind farm, having contracted to purchase the wind farm upon completion. Downing is a responsible investment manager that focuses on the key investment areas of renewable energy, infrastructure, property and healthcare. Acquiring the park represents Downing’s fourth investment in the wind power industry and its first in Finland.
“We are delighted to be expanding our portfolio into Finland, which is accelerating its growth plans for renewable energy. Projects like the Konttisuo wind farm are key to delivering decarbonisation and increasing energy security”, Tom Williams, Head of Energy & Infrastructure at Downing LLP commented. “We’re also pleased to be partnering with Energiequelle, who has an excellent track record of development and management of wind projects across Europe. We look forward to continuing to work with them on this project and hope to add others in the future too. At Downing, we are committed to responsible investing and this latest acquisition supports our commitment to this strategy. Our pipeline of potential acquisitions is looking very healthy and we look forward to adding further attractive opportunities to the portfolio in due course.”
Also Nils Borstelmann, the Managing Director of Energiequelle Oy is very satisfied with the project and thanks the partners: “We are very pleased with the successful commissioning and cooperation with Downing, for whom – as for Energiequelle – decentralised and renewable energy supply is at the heart of the company’s goals. Likewise, the practical cooperation with the Finnish authorities, the municipality of Soini and the locals has been really smooth, and it’s very wonderful to be able to celebrate the opening of the wind farm at the end of October together with the whole municipality! I look forward to seeing a lot of local people and people interested in wind power at the opening.”
Konttisuo is already the second project that Energiequelle has implemented in Finland since entering the market in 2015, after Paltusmäki (five turbines). There are currently three more wind farms under construction and an additional 2,500 MW in the pipeline.
