Three Enercon E-58 turbines are replaced with two E-138s, which will multiply the area’s climate-neutral electricity generation.
Esterwegen, 29 January 2020. Energiequelle’s repowering project begins today in the municipality of Esterwegen in Lower Saxony, Germany. Three Enercon E-58 turbines with a hub height of 70 metres and an output of 1 megawatt (MW) will be dismantled. The turbines were commissioned in 2002 and will now be replaced with two new E-138 turbines with a hub height of 160 metres and an output of 4.2 MW. The output of the farm will increase from 3 MW to 8.4 MW. The operator of the turbines is Windpark Esterwegen GmbH & Co. KG, in which Energiequelle GmbH also acts as a limited partner.
Energiequelle’s partner in the project is UMaAG, which has been responsible for the commercial management of the wind farm since 2002. Energiequelle is responsible for the technical management. The new turbines will be commissioned in September 2020.
“In the coming years, Energiequelle will carry out several repowering projects. Around 55 turbines are planned until 2023”, says project manager Daniel Schütte.
The combined production of the wind farm will cover the annual electricity consumption of approx. 5,500 households, while saving around 16,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
