Five Nordex turbines will supply around 18,000 households in the future
Maalahti/Finland, February 9, 2023. Energiequelle has completed the 28.5 MW Takanebacken wind farm. The farm is located in the municipality of Maalahti on Finland’s west coast and consists of a total of five Nordex N163 turbines with a height of 148 meters. In the future, 18,000 households can be supplied with sustainably produced electricity. Energiequelle will take over the operational management of the wind farm and will continue to be the contact for local residents and other partners. Nordex Finland Oy, with whom a 35-year maintenance contract has been signed, will be responsible for maintaining the turbines.
“The project can be seen as a prime example of good cooperation between landowners, residents, the municipality and us as project developers. A good exchange of information and a trusting relationship have characterized this project and led to its success,” comments Nils Borstelmann, Managing Director of Energiequelle Oy in Finland. The opening of the wind farm is to be celebrated together with the community at the beginning of the summer. There are already other projects in various stages of development in the region – the presence here is to be steadily expanded.
The Takanebacken wind farm was acquired by the klimaVest fund, an impact fund through which private investors can invest in renewable energy. Commerz Real, a wholly owned subsidiary of Commerzbank, advised klimaVest and managed the acquisition process of the wind farm. Commerz Real currently manages over 50 solar power plants and over 40 wind farms in Germany and Europe with a total nominal capacity of around 1.5 GW through its group-owned funds.
Takanebacken is the third project Energiequelle has connected to the grid since entering the Finnish market in 2015. Energiequelle’s next wind farm is expected to be completed later this year in the town of Kalajoki. In total, Energiequelle is planning wind projects in Finland with a total capacity of around 2,500 MW. The first solar projects are also in the pipeline. From 2024, the strategic focus will also be expanded to include hydrogen and power-to-X solutions.
